Privacy Policy

Mittord is built so that your words stay yours. This page explains, in plain language, what data exists, where it lives, and who sees it.

No account required

Mittord does not require you to create an account or log in. On first launch, the app generates an anonymous device identifier. That identifier is used to authenticate requests to Mittord's backend, to associate your subscription status (free or Pro) with your device, and to track request volume against your device for rate limiting and free-tier enforcement — it is not a name, email, or any other personal identifier, and it is not used to track you across other apps or services.

What we collect

Your dictionary — the words, translations, sources, and notes you save — is stored locally on your device, in a local database. It is not stored on Mittord's servers, and Mittord does not have a copy of it.

The anonymous device identifier, your subscription status, and short-lived request-volume counters (used for rate limiting) are what Mittord's backend persistently associates with your device.

How it's used

When you add a word, the word text and your active language pair are sent to Mittord's backend proxy, which forwards a translation request to DeepL and, where applicable, an example-sentence request to Anthropic's Claude API (or a similar language model provider). This is required to generate the translation and example sentence you see in the app. These requests are processed and then the results are returned to your device — Mittord's backend does not retain a standing copy of your dictionary.

If you subscribe to Mittord Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store, and your subscription status is managed by RevenueCat. Mittord itself never sees or stores your payment information.

Third parties involved

• DeepL — receives the word and language pair you're translating, to return a translation. Governed by DeepL's own privacy policy.
• Anthropic (Claude API) — receives the word and context needed to generate an example sentence. Governed by Anthropic's own privacy policy.
• Apple (App Store) — processes your purchase if you subscribe to Pro. Mittord does not receive or store your payment details.
• RevenueCat — manages and verifies subscription status across devices, using your anonymous device identifier. Mittord does not receive your payment details from RevenueCat either.

Mittord does not display advertising, does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs beyond what's described above, and does not sell your data to anyone.

Your choices

• Export — you can export your full dictionary at any time, as JSON or CSV, free of charge, regardless of whether you're on the free or Pro tier.
• Delete — since your dictionary lives locally on your device and not on Mittord's servers, uninstalling the app removes it. There is no separate cloud account to delete data from.
• Notifications — you can disable either or both notification types independently in Settings.

Children's Privacy

Mittord is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@mittord.app.

Changes to this policy

If Mittord's data practices change — for example, if an optional cloud backup feature is introduced in the future — this page will be updated and the change will be noted here before it takes effect.
